please help. the scars are circle in shape and they are flat and quite noticeable. i can’t even stand to wear capris in public, let alone a bathing suit. it has ruined my self-esteem terribly, i won’t even take off my pants with my boyfriend. please help me!!

Congratulations on your steps closer to recovery. SI is a very powerful and vicious cycle and for wanting to overcome that, you are a very strong person. I know that scars from SI can be embarrassing but try to look at them as battle wounds or life maps – you have come through a lot. Concealer makeup can be used to hide some scars. I would suggest Dermalend. It was made for people with skin conditions such as vitiligo and many people have reported having very good results from it. It is waterproof and can be blended to match your skin color closely. Products like Maderma only minimize scarring if the scar is very new. Silicone sheets can also be used. The sheets are taped tightly (some are self adhesive) over the scars for several hours a day and unlike Maderma, they can be used on new and old scars. A more drastic measure would be plastic surgery or skin grafts. Skin grafts will also leave you with a scar and plastic surgery is very expensive. I wish you the best of luck in your recovery!
